Weekend Aside – Yet More Fleischer Superman
Well, the planned weekend aside was scuttled by my inability to find a copy of The Kents, so, just like always when there’s a gap, revel in the joy that is public domain animation!
Remember to follow this blog on Twitter to be notified of updates as they happen.
Click on the Weekend Asides tab for the history of the Fleischer Superman Shorts, which were very influential to the DCAU. You can get the shorts on DVD in a variety of places, such as the Ultimate Superman Collection and, more affordably, the VCI collection. I don’t believe they’ve been put out in HD yet.
On the list of “sights you’d never thought you’d see”, Lois Lane picking up a tommy gun and spraying a car with bulletsĀ has to rank up there, doesn’t it? And for those wondering – all one of you – a billion dollars at the time of the short would be approximately fourteen and a half billion today, give or take a hundred million.
Next Side Story: To begin our examination of the DCAU and its handling of death, it’s the outstanding “The Late Mr. Kent.” But first…
Next Time: The Justice League meets up with the Defenders Aquaman, Doctor Fate and Solomon Grundy in “The Terror Beyond.”
